A local girl will celebrate her twelfth birthday on Wednesday.
“I want a pair of jumping shoes and a robot,” said Alex Friesen, the soon-to-be 12-year-old who will celebrate her birthday on Wednesday, which numerically is 12-12-12.
Friesen, the oldest of three sisters, will share her unique numerical birthday with the estimated 10,000 other U.S. children born on Dec. 12, 2000.
The phenomenon happens only 12 times every 100 years.
“Her due date was on Christmas and so our biggest concern was that she wasn’t born on Christmas,” said her mother Gina. “We didn’t really think about it until last year.”
Friesen, a 6th grader who plays volleyball and basketball said nobody realized it until last year.
“My aunt Mary told me last year when one of my friends had their 11th birthday on Nov. 11, 2011,” she said. “My teacher said that it’s a special date.”
