The Kiowa County Mavericks blew out a struggling Skyline T-Birds on a chilly night in Greensburg on Friday with a 50-0 win. The Mavericks entered the game with a 3-and-2 record in their first five contests, while the T-Birds (5-0) had yet to win a game this season.
It took only two quarters for the Mavs to invoke the 45-point rule, officially ending the game 26 seconds before halftime when #24 Creighton McDonald ran in a 9-yard TD.
Skyline couldn't muster any offense and crossed the mid-field only twice.
It has been a rough season for the 'Birds who are now 0-and-6, and it shows.
The cobbled energy they carried onto the field in their first possession quickly vanished when #8 Trever Powell made an interception-for-touchdown in the Skyline red zone on the third play of the game.
Powell had four touchdowns on 93 yards rushing and McDonald had three touchdowns on 119 yards.
Though the game officially ended at the half, both teams continued play in the second half. Most of the crowd shuffled out following a rousing performance from the Little Pepsters as temperatures hovered in the low forties with strong northerly winds.
The Mavericks (4-2) will head to Fairfield next Friday.
