  • The Haviland USD 474 School District held an auction last Saturday in the Thompson Memorial Gymnasium. According to Superintendent Mike Couch, it did exactly what the district hoped it would.
“I know we had about 200 people throughout the day,” said Couch on Tuesday afternoon. “And we started with about 150 people. It was a good turn out.”
Couch said last week that the auction was necessary to liquidate items that had been depreciating and that cleaning out the high school building of excess fixtures, the goal.
The floor of the gymnasium, filled with desks, shelves, tables and various knick-knacks, brought an estimated $10,000 to the district, before auctioneer commission and expenses, according to Couch.
Couch said the money raised would go back to the district and that there were no immediate plans or projects attached to the proceeds.
Hamm Auction of Pratt organized the sale.
“Hamm’s did a very very good job,” added Couch. “They were professional, courteous and helpful.”
