  • BIBLICAL FICTION: The Carpenter's Story: Chapter 40, Part 3

  • Although The Carpenter's Stories are fictional, they are based on real events in my life, portraying my coming to religion, by the way of holiness. Holiness is anyone truely living for God. Anyone born again by Grace Through Faith, no matter what denomination is born into holiness.    My definition of religion is still... 'My love for God.'

  • "Maimed and smitten," The Carpenter says out loud in his study.
"What's that, Honey?" His Beautiful Young Wife asks as she walks past the door with the laundry from the line. "Did you say smitten?"
"Yes, I'm worried about our bills and mortgage payment." They've never gotten behind before, but the only job offers have been lucritive and questionable, as far as aligning with Gambling Halls and Sabbath breaking for double overtime pay.
"What's that got to do with being smitten?"
"My pride is hurt, Which means I have a prideful heart."
"Is the Lord dealing with you again?"
"Praise God, yes!" Contrary to Worldly Wisdom, a prideful heart is a bad thing and being smitten, plagued, humbled and defeated is a good thing. "I'm not going after the big jobs if I have to compromise our standards."
"Well that's good, Isn't it?" The Wife knows exactly what he's going through and is... proud of the way the Lord is dealing with him, of the way he is letting the Lord lead him.
"My flesh wants to go after these jobs, but the spirit in me says no!" He sighs, but it's relief, not depresion. "When I get up from prayer I'm peaceful, even about our financial situation."
"These are opportunities, not for jobs but for you to see the Lord come through in a time no one would expect. A testimonial is in the making, and derailing it would stunt an important time of growth for you, financially and spiritually."
"Not to mention the Lord's will being done through me, instead of, in spite of me."
"It's really kind of exciting when you get down to it. All the things we try to do within ourselves, and take credit for, aren't as great as when we let the Lord do greater things than these, through us. Things people say they never expected to see happen, happen and most will say, 'wasn't that lucky.'"
    "I say God be praised."
"Let's bind together and pray for a miracle." She says.
"Let's pray I don't go spiritually blind and deaf being offered jobs that could make us rich by the worlds standards and poor in the things of God" He's serious!
"I'll agree, but what if we go even farther than that, and ask God to reverse our situation completely. If he wants you to do something you wouldn't expect, maybe something you wouldn't like to do, we might ask for him to open a door in another direction, if it be His will to." Now she's serious, and it's scaring The Carpenter to death.
