On Tuesday, May 15th five members of the hospital auxiliary organization traveled to Larned for the 2012 District 6 meeting hosted by Pawnee Valley Community Hospital Auxiliary. This is a name change for their hospital. Many might remember it from the past as being St. Joseph Medical Center but, due to necessity in continuing healthcare services, Pawnee Valley Community Hospital is a member of the HaysMed “family.” Mary Smith, President, PVCHA, welcomed all who attended. There were three state officers attending: HAK State President, Pat Martin, Fredonia; HAK President-Elect, Connie Speer, Wichita; and District 6 Coordinator, Donna Schaffer, Ulysses. Donna has completed her three-year term but also will be resigning her state office due to health issues. Keynote speaker was 96 year old Dr. William R. Brenner, who was one of the first primary care providers of the hospital, former mayor of Larned, but also a Bataan Death March survivor during WWII. A copy of his biography was purchased and will be available for reading. All five auxiliaries making up District 6 were present, each president gave the required three minute speech, and all five scrapbooks were on display. The completed Award of Excellence was submitted to the District Coordinator along with the other required meeting forms. HAK State meeting will be November 15 – 16 in conjunction with KHA annual meeting in Overland Park. Reminder: Dillon’s debit cards are available for purchase so please contact Roberta Seiler, Treasurer, by the 22nd monthly; membership to this organization is not necessary to purchase but we welcome all new and returning members. Thank you for supporting our fundraising efforts to help our hospital.
Carolyn Irvin, President
