  • Leonard Raymond Schwarm, 91, died April 7, 2012 at the Hospice House of Hutchinson, Kansas. He was born March 29, 1921 at the family ranch in Ursula Township of Kiowa County, Kansas, the son of William T. and Edith (Eggelston) Schwarm. Leonard was a farmer and rancher. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1939. He was a member of The First United Methodist Church, V.F.W., and American Legion, a lifetime member of the Triangle Rodeo Club, all of Greensburg, and the Co-op Elevator Board at Greensburg and Brenham, a Director with the Farm Management Association, A trustee of the Ursula Township, and the Kansas Livestock Association. Leonard served in the U.S. Army, a veteran of World War Two, he was awarded the Purple Heart on April 9, 1945. On January 11, 1948 he married Helen Ruth Piester at Greensburg. She survives. Other survivors include two sons Steve and wife Lena Schwarm, Olathe, Kansas, and Mark and wife Velda Schwarm, Hutchinson, a Granddaughter Kellen Liebsch Topeka, Kansas and two Great-grandchildren Tyler and Madelyn Liebsch. He was preceded in death by a sister Glorene Haney.
    Funeral services and celebration of Leonard’s life were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg, with Pastor Terry Mayhew officiating. A visitation was held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the church. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church and Kiowa County 4-H, both in care of Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main St., Greensburg, Kansas, 67054. (pic)
