County seniors ate their first lunch in their new facility on Main Street last Friday afternoon.
“This is so exciting,” said newly appointed Kiowa County Council on Aging Director Kari Kyle.
Seniors were treated to an impromptu pizza party, including homemade fudge brownies courtesy of kitchen staff member Angelique Libby in their new building, which is nearing completion.
The lunch was moved from its usual location, the community room at the United Methodist Church due to a Red Cross blood drive.
Former director John Wickland noted that the lunch tables were borrowed from the Greensburg Catholic Church and that the permanent furniture wouldn’t be arriving until next week. Wickland also reminded the room full of seniors that lunch would return to the Methodist church next week.
The senior center will not officially open until Saturday April 14 at 2 p.m. although there are plans to begin using the building for regular lunch service during the first week of April.
