  • Melton, statistically was far from a statistical stand out, respective to player like Liggett, Headrick or Heft, but a solid contributor and a reliable teammate, she was the constant for a team with plenty of ups and downs.
Melton finished ahead of the pack in points per game (5.3), total season points (100), shooting percentage (.259) and free throw percentage (.420). She was second in offensive rebounds (35), third in defensive rebounds (41), second in total rebounds (76) with a team leading .853:1 offensive rebound ratio and 18 steals on the season.
“It was hard to ignore Halie Headrick’s first half MVP-type numbers. My first instinct was to vote for Halie, but looking at the season as a whole, Melton was everything you could hope from a bench player. She scored, she had solid defense and was never a liability when coming into important situations,” said one voter.
“Coming off the bench for much of the season, Melton gave the Mavericks some nice depth at the post positions.  She also had a well-rounded game with solid stats in scoring, rebounding, and assists,” said another voter.
“She is so athletic, when she’s active and playing hard she makes a lot of things happen offensively and defensively,” said Head Coach Randy Vandenhoek. “She’s quick, we can gable a little bit on our press defense because she can cover some area for us. Over the season she improved her decision-making and her aggressiveness.”
