A service celebrating Lucymae’s life was held at Haviland Friends Church, Haviland, Kansas on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 11:00a.m.

Lucymae Meireis, 93, passed away on March 12, 2012 at Hilltop Manor in Cunningham, Kansas.  Lucy was born in Kismet, Kansas to Rodney and Etta (Ullery) Lyon on September 15, 1918. She was the youngest of five children. Her early childhood years were spent around Sublette and Greensburg, Kansas. In 1925 her family relocated to Haviland, Kansas where she spent the remainder of her life. She attended Haviland Grade School, Friends Haviland Academy, Friends Bible College (now Barclay College) and Ft. Hays State College where she obtain a three-year teaching certificate.  Following a few years of teaching at Golden Valley (a country school northeast of Haviland), she married Delbert A. Meireis on August 5, 1942, in Pasadena, California. Following Delbert’s discharge from the army in January, 1946, they made their home on a farm north of Haviland until his death February 27, 1962. At that time she and her daugthters moved into Haviland, where she was employed at Friends Bible College, retiring as Assistant Registrar. Throughout her life Lucymae was active as a member of Maple Friends Church and Haviland Friends Church, where she taught Sunday School, and held various positions in the Esther Missionary Society. She loved to do sewing and other handwork, paint in oil and watercolors, work in her flower gardens, read, play games with friends, and spend time with her family. Throughout the years she was a member of the Kiowa County Home Extension unit, Farmerettes, Haviland Art Club, and the Haviland Heritage Foundation. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert; sister, Myrtle Schmidt, and brothers, Lionel, Marion, and Kenneth Lyon and their spouses. Survivors include daughters Shari (Terry) McAfee of Haviland, Kansas, and Loudelle (Ted) Stanfield of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren Jodi Stanfield (Chris) Noll of Colorado Springs, Jennifer McAfee (Kevin) Lee of Haviland; and Chris (Kelly) Stanfield of Chandler, Oklahoma; and 9 great grandchildren, Nathan, Hannah, and Jessa Lee, Abbi, Makenzie, and Brody Noll, and Isaac, Ian, and Emma Stanfield. She also leaves a number of nieces and nephews.

A service celebrating Lucymae’s life was held at Haviland Friends Church, Haviland, Kansas on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 11:00a.m.  Memorial remembrances in Lucymae’s memory may be made to Barclay College, Haviland, Kansas.
