The regular meeting of the KCMH Auxiliary met Wednesday February 8, 2012 in the Executive Conference Room due to another meeting in the Basement Conference Room.

The regular meeting of the KCMH Auxiliary met Wednesday February 8, 2012 in the Executive Conference Room due to another meeting in the Basement Conference Room.  The Dietary staff continue to serve delicious meals and we appreciate their hard work.  We welcomed two new members and encourage others to be a part of this organization.  Also, membership dues continue to be received so if you have been a member and wish to continue, please submit your dues to our Treasurer, Roberta Seiler as soon as possible.  Our state officers encourage membership from gentlemen and it would be an honor to have more men in our organization.  This is a hospital auxiliary and not just for women.

Our guest speaker for the meeting was Vanessa Kirk, R.N. and Director of Nursing.  She provided an informative presentation on Electronic Health Records or paperless medical records.  The federal government is strongly encouraging paperless charting and hospitals will be receiving funding over the next five years if the meet and initiate the paperless system into their hospitals.  In the handout she provided the first page are 14 required criteria for the paperless system and the second page shows 10 criteria and our hospital has to choose five in which to complete.  KCMH has a backup in Hays so if our system goes down, our information is stored for retrieval.  KCMH Nursing has C.O.W.’s, or computer on wheels, for admitting, assessing, emergency, and daily charting.   For information or a demonstration (sample training program) please contact Vanessa and she can provide more details.

President, Carolyn Irvin, brought the meeting to order with the reading of the minutes of previous meeting.  After two corrections, were approved.  Treasurer, Roberta Seiler, provided the account balance.  We had submissions from three departments for assistance and we will use these for our projects.  A suggestion was made to send a donation to the Joplin, MO hospital that was damaged by the tornado that effected their town.  This motion was approved and our treasurer will get the details of where to send the money.  This is a reciprocation to all the donations that came to our hospital.  Janice Rush, who is a retired registered nurse, was asked to be chair of the scholarship committee.  The dates for application submission will be March 19 through April 20.  Please come to the hospital to pick the application during that time.  Friday, March 30th is National Doctor Day and we will treat our providers with a red carnation and edible goodies.  District 6 meeting will be Tuesday, May 15th in Larned.  In 2010 KCMHA hosted the meeting and we had over 70 in attendance to see our new hospital.  It was suggested that more than two go to Larned to see their new hospital and all they have done to keep their doors open.  We are still needing help with daily mail delivery so call Minnie Koehn.  Remember to RSVP the Monday preceding the Wednesday meeting so Dietary can get a count.  The next meeting will be Wednesday, March 14, 2012 and the scheduled speaker is Travis Hamrick, LCP, and he is the Clinical Director at Iroquois Center for Human Development.  With no other discussion the meeting adjourned.

Respectfully, Carolyn Irvin, President KCMH Auxiliary
