  • Greensburg Recreation Wrestlers Mason Dean and Gage McDonald traveled to Tulsa, Ok. last weekend to compete in the Tulsa Nationals Wrestling competition with more than 2,000 other wrestlers from forty states.
It was a tough competition, with McDonald loosing both matches and Dean taking one of three.
“Gage and Mason wrestled hard and gained some great experience,” said coach Chad Pore.
Another group of wrestlers competed at the Pratt tournament.
Connor Pore placed second in the 8 and under/49lbs weight class with Bo West also placing second in the 8 and under/125lbs weight class. Tye Newell placed third in the 6 and under/40lbs class and Braiden Merhoff placed fourth in the 12 and under/72lbs division.
Jennifer Taylor, Ashlind Gumpenberger participated in their first tournament of the season and Brett West wrestled in his inaugural tournament. Jace Merhoff, Tanner Newell and Caydan Pore also wrestled but didn’t place.
“Today was an extremely tough day for our wrestlers,” said Pore, “as we experience lots of defeat.  This is one of the things I love about wrestling, it is an individual sport that teaches kids how to deal with adversity and how to bounce back from defeat.  They cannot blame anyone else when they lose and when they win they know they earned it.  We will bounce back and continue to improve and as long as the kids have fun and go hard, we are achieving our goal.”
