In a few sentences, explain why you decided to become an educator.

I became an educator because I had some great teachers/coaches that influenced me.  I enjoyed going to school!

Who is a teacher or professor who inspired you and how?

Mr. Don Rynerson was my JH Math/Science teacher/ JH Coach and Mr. Bob Bartowski.  I respected both of them as men, teachers and coaches.  I might not have always liked what they did at the time, but as I matured I knew they were instilling great values in me.

Who is someone in current events who you admire and why?

Tim Tebow because he lives his life all-in for Christ.  Many people can't grasp it or don't get it.  But as a fellow believer I know what he has found and I don't care how many games he wins as an NFL quarterback.  Even though he is a young man, he could teach many older believers how to truly live their lives.

What are the greatest challenges in education today?

Trying to help kids who in troubling circumstances.  I overhead someone say it best like this, "Kids today are facing too many adult problems."  I was blessed to have both parents and grow up in a stable home.  I think many kids in our country are facing things I would not even begin to know how to handle them.  It is difficult to relate to kids when you never had to face the same issues that they are dealing with as teenagers.

What advice can you offer for someone who wants to go into education?

Take it seriously and be prepared to get better every year.  I used to think that after 5 years or so in teaching I would have everything set and wouldn't ever have to change anything.  I learned that if I wanted to be effective for kids that I had to treat each class differently from year to year and even day to day.

What teaching moment is most memorable?

I used to teach a lot of biology and anatomy and physiology classes and I always enjoy it when former students who have gone into a medical field send me a message thanking me for what they learned class.  Teachers and administrators don't always get recognition until students graduate and have time to grow and mature.  It is special when they remember and thank you
