Kiowa County Council on Aging (KCCA) President Jackie Sherer confirmed to The Signal Wednesday afternoon that her board had agreed unanimously in a special meeting held earlier today to ask for the resignation of Senior Center Director Mary Marble.

According to Sherer, Marble refused, forcing the six members of the board present to terminate Marble.

“We gave her the chance to resign, but she refused,” Sherer said. “So she left us with no choice. I figured she’d be expecting something like this but we really blind sided her with this.”

Marble had increasingly come under fire from county commissioners the past year over an appearance of not satisfactorily maintaining a program for county seniors as well as not presenting financial documentation in a timely fashion since the tornado.

The board also decided to retain Sally Shattuck of Ashland as their attorney. Shattuck maintains an office in Greensburg on Thursdays and Saturdays. The KCCA had previously employed Charles Herd as its attorney, but perceived a conflict of interest in light of Herd being Marble’s personal attorney.
